Episode #3: House of Grief

(This house) is my version of grief, it’s changing, I’m learning. I’m not casting it out, or ignoring it and drinking it away, I’m trying to work with and see how it really fits. I think I’m adding rooms to my place. Adding rooms like empathy, grace or forgiveness. Things that weren’t there before.”
— Jon
Grief is not your way out, it’s your way through.
— Jon

When the grief of losing his wife was new and raw, Jon was in survival mode, just trying to breathe.

Years later, he is beginning to understand just how complex the idea of moving forward is.

Whether you are new to grief or it’s been a companion of yours for too long, this is where the very name of this podcast comes in.

It takes grit.

It takes grace.

And it takes sitting next to, getting out from under and moving forward with that “side of grief.”

It makes sense that this contractor would liken it to building, renovating and remodeling a house. New spaces have grown, old ones have faded and on tough days they seem to appear again.

From drugs to the Holy Spirit and the idea of love deficits, this episode has it all (including some swears and a poem).

It’s the grit we’ve grown fond of and the grace that we rely on.
